Tychero

Tychero is a village in the prefecture of Evros and is located 4 kilometers west of the river. Before 1922, it was a Turkish village named Bintikli and lived only Turkish and Bulgarian small farmers and ranchers. In 1924, the village was called “Tychio”, as it was the village that then visited Eleftherios Venizelos. In 1953, the name changes to “Tychero”, possibly to distinguish it from Pythio.

Most of the residents of Tychero are engaged in agriculture and the cultivation of cotton, sugar beet, wheat, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. In the ’70s Tychero was famous for its melons (variety altabas). Tychero still remains one of the most innovative areas of Greece in rural policy and organization.

In the settlement has been created an artificial lake, around which have been developed courts, a theater, playgrounds, a swimming pool and a guesthouse. On the hill above the lake you will encounter the Cavalry Association of Tychero, where you can do horse riding.

Finally, from Tychero you should not miss the Petrified Forest in the area of Fylachto, with trees older than 25 million years! A small showroom, with samples of fossil findings in the region, operates in the Tourist Center at the entrance of the village, next to the
