Agios Thomas

Agios Thomas is the beach of the beautiful village Karavados, in Livatho, in southern Kefalonia. You can reach there by car, but also by foot, from the village. It was named by the homonymous chapel, located at the top of the hill, which you can also visit. Shortly before the beach, towering trees and a fountain with running water will cool you down, in the small square.

Two sandy beaches, with fine reddish sand form the beach of Agios Thomas. The first, smaller, is just below the tavern, where the road ends. The second beach of St. Thomas is located after the rocks at the edge of the first, and you can reach it easily by walking. The second beach has beach bar. The waters in both are blue and crystal.

Various geological formations ‘decorate’ the coast of Agios Thomas: large pits with sea water, in the summer work like “Jacuzzi” and assemble also “afrala”, as act as salt marshes, for collection of sea salt. The rock that dominates in the landscape, is said Geronitsia.

Apart from Karavados, near St. Thomas is the Venetian Castle of Saint George, the Mycenaean tombs in Mazarakata and the beaches Lourdas and Trapezaki.
