Archaeological Museum of Corfu

The Archaeological Museum of Corfu remains closed due to renovations from May of 2012 and is expected to open to the public in the summer of 2015.

 

In the Archaeological Museum of Corfu are hosted findings from the entire island but, mainly from the archaeological site of Palaiopoli , Kassiopi  and from the ancient cemeteries that have been excavated.

The pediment of the temple of Artemis Gorgon  is the most impressive exhibit of the Archaeological Museum of Corfu, while the so-called «Lion of Menekrates» amazes visitors.

Sculptures, statues, vessels and amphorae, the busts of the poet Menander and Thucydides, bronze medical tools, lamps and various other ancient objects are included in the collection.
