Agios Dimitrios of Arcadians
Τhe church of Agios Dimitrios of Arcadians is very close to the central square of Kalamata, in the east.
Located at Lakoniki Street, almost opposite to the premises of the two departments of the University of Peloponnese in Kalamata, the church of Agios Dimitrios of Arcadians is dedicated to Agios Dimitrios Myrovlytis.
Historians place the building of Agios Dimitrios of Arcadians in the 19th century mainly based on local newspaper reports related to works that took place outside the church for the installation of a fountain where believers and passersby would drink some water.
Agios Dimitrios of Arcadians was not initially known by the name “Arcadians” as it took it after 1928 when Arcadians of Messinian capital undertook the renovation of the church from scratch.
The church of Agios Dimitrios of Arcadians, which is a dependency of the historic Monastery of Velanidia is located outside of Kalamata and celebrates on October 26th in memory of the Great Martyr Dimitrios.
