Ano Vromovrysi
Ano Vromovrysi is located at an altitude of 960 meters , just outside of Kalamata. It was the old village of the inhabitants of Vormovrysi. A few ruins and a church of Virgin Mary mark the powerful village that contributed a lot to the Struggle of 1821. The cacophonous name of Ano Vromovrysi possibly comes from a sulfur source, although the official name of two villages with this name is with – o and not with – ω ( Vromovrysi ).
Ano Vromovrysi is today a beautiful landscape of pleasure. The surrounding mountains are the most important challenge for lovers of mountain, trekking and climbing. Beautiful forests of oaks, arbutus, plane trees, bushes, canyons, gorges, caves, springs, waterfalls, rivers and stone huts captivate the traveler and make him travel to other worlds and other times.
Every year on July 2nd in Ano Vromovrysi they celebrate Panagia Vlaherna the “kapsocheirovolousa” with a big festival. Crowds of people from the surrounding villages climb on mountainous Ano Vromovrysi as the party starts after the liturgy and end late on the evening, with many food, apetizers and especially roast pork.
