Avramio is a lowland village where there are about 400 permanent residents. It is located at the southern end of the Messinian valley and the main occupation of the villagers is farming and more specifically, the production of oil and wine. The plain is full of trees and the surrounding area is famous for oil and olives of good quality.
If you find yourself in Avramio on September, you should not forget to go to the “Feast of Must”, that is organized at the end of the month by the Association of Women from Avramio and is actually dedicated to excellent wine of Avramio and the unique products by must in this time period.
The village was established in the early 19th century, but in 1846 it was almost completely destroyed by earthquakes and was rebuilt from scratch shortly after.
The municipal district of Avramio includes today Drakoneri and Agios Avgoustinos.
