Church of Agios Stratigos in Pyrgos
The church of Agios Stratigos in Pyrgos is a very small chapel adorned with beautiful frescoes, located in Pyrgos of Western Mani and it is 56 kilometers away from the city of Kalamata.
The locals also call it church of Agios Efstratios. Entering to the small church of Agios Stratigos in Pyrgos just above the entrance door you will see a very beautiful and highly detailed representation of the crucifixion of the Savior with the two crucified robbers at left and right of Christ, three Marys and his student John, soldiers with their spears and the soldier who believed Jesus holding in his hand the inscription “He is truly the son of God”.
There is a Byzantine icon on the left wall of the church of Agios Stratigos in Pyrgos, it is roughly positioned and offered by a family. It is dated in 876 and depicted Saint Georgios with the white horse.
You will see Christ in the center and at left Virgin Mary with all the Apostles in the temple of the church of Agios Stratigos in Pyrgos and over all its length.
