Feast of Ypapanti

The Feast of Ypapanti is a religious celebration that takes place with great pomp in Kalamata. Ceremonies begin on January 27th and end on February 9th.

The Cathedral of the city celebrates with any pomp and solemnity, the Feast of Ypapanti of Christ. On the eve of the feast, Vespers takes place and an overnight vigil follows. On  February 2nd, the day of Ypapanti, there is the litany of the holy icon of “Our Lady  Ypapanti”, protector and patron of Kalamata and the whole of Messinia, kept in the Cathedral of Ypapanti in Old Town. The Litany of Holy Icon in the main streets and squares of the city started since 1889 and continues till today.

The Metropolitan Chrysostomos Daskalakis established in 1948 that the Feast of Ypapanti begins in Kalamata on January 27th and ends on February 9th. So the Feast of Ypapanti lasts 14 days.
