Gallery of Contemporary Greek Art

The Gallery of Contemporary Greek Art was founded in 1962 by the Popular Library of Kalamata and is hosted on the fourth floor of the Cultural Center of the city. The visitor has the opportunity to admire more than 100 drawings, prints, sculptures and paintings 430 of which belong to the Gallery of Contemporary Greek Art.

Most works date to 1950s and 1960s by various artistic movements: Impressionism, Expressionism, Munich School, Abstraction and Artistic Generation of ’30 which are all worthily represented by famous artists. In the Gallery of Contemporary Greek Art, visitors can see works of Nikos Engonopoulos, Alekos Fasianos, George Roilos, Spyros Vikatos, Nikos Chatzikyriakos – Gikas, Kostas Tsoklis, Dimitris Mytaras, Giannis Tsarouhis, Giannoulis Halepas and several others.

Apart from the Gallery of Contemporary Greek Art, the Cultural Center of Kalamata also hosts two libraries, the Popular and Central Public Library. Visitoris have the opportunity to buy the album of the Gallery of Contemporary Greek Art and postcards depicting some representative works.
