Municipal Gallery ” A. Tassos ‘

The Municipal Gallery “A. Tassos” in Kalamata is housed in a renovated neoclassical building in the historic center to the southwest of the square of Ypapanti. The gallery took its name by the great engraver Tassos (Anastasios Alevizos) who came from Messinia and donated many pieces of his collection. Among the exhibits of the Municipal Gallery “A. Tassos” there are works of Varotsos, Tetsis, Zouni, Katsoulidis, Botsoglou, Psychopaidis and others.

In the Municipal Gallery “A. Tassos” the collection  exclusively consisting of donations, includes 350 artworks mostly of 1980s. It focuses more on painting and sculpture, but there are also remarkable pieces of ceramics and printmaking.

At the same time in the Municipal Gallery “A. Tassos” there are periodical exhibitions organized by the gallery itself or in collaboration with renowned artists and art associations covering all forms of artistic, classic and innovative expression.

The gallery belongs to the Municipal Company of Cultural Development of Kalamata and is open on Monday till Wednesday. The entrance is free.
