Petalidi

Petalidi is one of the tourist resorts of Messinia, built near the site of the Homeric city Aipeia and is 27 kilometers away from Kalamata.

The archaeological findings from the area belong to the prehistoric period and historic times and are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Kalamata. They testify the continuous habitation of the whole area of Petalidi.

The region produces olives, olive oil, figs,fruits, vegetables, raisins and wine and about 3,600 residents are occupied with agricultural crops and tourism.

The beaches of the Messinian Bay are wonderful and in combination with modern infrastructure, Petalidi becomes a major tourist destination that receives a large amount of visitors every year.

The palace of Nichoria is located to the north of Petaldi and it is an important archaeological site with findings of early Helladic and middle Helladic period and Mycenaean ages.

The Ancient Messini is 38 km away and you should visit it.

In Petalidi you will see the Byzantine churches of Zoodochos Pigi and Saint Nicolaos.
