Small Church of Taxiarches
Four kilometers away from the city of Kalamata and at small distance from the highway Kalamata – Athens there is the small church of Taxiarches.
The small church of Taxiarches, which celebrates on November 8th, is an aisle church with polygonal apse of sanctuary while there is a bell tower at the northwestern side.
Chronologically the construction of small church of Taxiarches is placed in the 19th century and with its decoration and morphology it is one of the most interesting examples of neoclassical architecture in the region of Kalamata.
The frescoes inside the small church of Taxiarches, besides the altar, reach to the level of the false ceiling.
To the south of the small church of Taxiarches, which was restored by the Archaeological Service after the damage, a modern and newer Church was built for believers.
