Mykonos - Transportation

To get to know Ithaca and enjoy its beauties, its convenient to have your own means of transport for your transportation around the beautiful villages of the island, as well as its cultural and natural attractions and the lovely beaches along the shores. Distances in Ithaca are not too remote, up to 30 km and the roads are in their majority paved. The main road that connects the southern part and Vathi with the northern part is relatively easy, but the many closed turns forbid high velocities.

The view from the road to the narrow passage between Kefalonia and Ithaca is breathtaking, and if you are driving through the sunset, its colors will surely keep you transfixed - so be careful on the road! In any case, iron safety bars are positioned along the road, giving a sense of security, since the road is built parallel to the cliff. When driving on this main road do not miss the chance to stop at "Chani", the narrowest point of Ithaca, where you can see the "two seas", Kefalonia from one side and Ithaca from the other.

If you do not have your own means of transport, then Ithaca offers you the following choices for your transportation:

• Bus (KTEL). There are two daily itineraries, that start from Vathi, the capital of Ithaca and go to the villages of northern Ithaca and back. The first itinerary leaves for Lefki, Stavro, Platrithia, Frikes, Kioni at 6 and the respective route from Kioni (the end station) to Vathi, leaves at 7. Another bus leaves at 11.30 from Vathi, with the respective one from Kioni leaving at 2 in the afternoon.

• Taxi. If you want to feel comfortable and independent, you have to choose a taxi for your transportation around Ithaca. You will find the taxi stand at the main square of Vathi, but you can also call for a taxi from anywhere on the island. Taking a cab is the only way you can reach the port of Piso Aetos, since there is no public transportation that will take you there.

• Boats. If you want to visit some of the most beautiful beaches of the island, which are not accessible by car, then you will have to use the daily itineraries of the small boats, that will also take you around the island or to some of the small islets around Ithaca. The boats are leaving from the main square, in the Vathi, where you will find all the information about the itineraries.
