Agios Ioannis Theologian in Itea

Agios Ioannis Theologian of Itea is situated at the eastern entrance of the city. It’s a small church and it is dedicated to Agios Ioannis the Theologian, the disciple of Jesus. His memory is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on 6th May and 27th September (Metastasis of Agios Ioannis the Theologian). Agios Ioannis the Theologian in Itea hides a small treasure for the visitors, worshippers and the fans of the Christian iconography: the church is decorated with exceptional style frescoes dating from the period after the Turkish occupation, in the middle of 19th century.

The church of Agios Ioannis the Theologian in Itea is built on old royal rhythm, i.e. elongated building, but of a small seize.

Agios Ioannis the Theologian in Itea celebrates annually on Tuesday of Diakainisimou (Easter Tuesday or New Tuesday), when the festival liturgy takes place.

In Itea, the visitor can also visit the Church of the Metamorphosis of the Savior and the Savior’s Monastery, which is located in the neighboring Galaxidi.
