Dimokratias Square

The Dimokratias Square in prefecture of Rethymno is located in the center of Rethymno on the corner of the Dimokratias Street and the Kountourioti Avenue. The City Hall is hosted there and on its west side the famous torrent “Kamaraki” once flew, which this district was named after.

The Dimokratias Square is in front of the Paleontological Museum of Rethymno, adorned by the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos opposite the town hall. After the recent redevelopment with benches, free open spaces and lights in the fountains, a considerable aesthetic improvement and energy saving were achieved.

The Dimokratias Square is now regarded by the locals as one of the most beautiful spots of Rethymno.
