Military Museum of Chromonastiri

The Military Museum of Chromonastiri in Rethymno prefecture is located in the central square of the homonymous village, 10 kilometers south of Rethymno.

Housed in Villa Claudio, a magnificent, fully restored mansion that was granted in 1997 by the local community to the Hellenic Army General Staff, the Military Museum of Chromonastiri contains exhibits of different eras, such as military uniforms, weapons, medals and more. The museum along with the collections of military objects of ground combat units, also hosts a maquette-room with uniforms of the Greek army, two exhibition halls containing relics of all historical periods from 1821 onwards, two halls hosting periodic exhibitions, one internet room for six persons and a library with a reading area. There is also a conference room, while the visitor will find exhibits outside of the museum as well.

The Military Museum of Chromonastiri opened its gates to the public in 2010. It operates on holidays with relative announcements in the local press and special arrangements can be made for groups from different organizations. Next to the museum, there is also the Prinari Olive Mill, an old olive mill turned into a museum.
