The private Museum of the Greek Traditional Costumes, a part of the Greek Traditional Folk Art Center “Society of the past”, is a unique museum in Crete due to the wealth of the costumes that it exhibits and is housed in ROUSTIKA MELATHRON.
The collection is curated by Katy Karekla and Andreas Fragiadakis. The exhibition includes special presentation of 70 costumes from all over Greece, Mainland and the Islands and Minor Asia. All the costumes are replicas of the original ones, created with great attention, and are offered for rent or sale not only to Associations throughout Greece, but also to private collections.
The Museum of the Greek Traditional Costumes is housed in an area of 11 acres, along with the museum’s church of Agios Stylianos, the Aloni of 1843, a conference room suitable for 200 persons, a stone-built ‘rakidio” (production place of the local alcoholic drink “raki”), a stone-built “chalkidio” (the traditional house in Roustika), a copy of an old traditional stone house, a fabric workshop, a traditional cafeteria and a tavern.
