River Dam

The river dam is located on the road leading to Agioi Apostoloi  and Agia Foteini , in the province of Amari  in Rethymno prefecture , about 25 km far from Rethymno .

The river dam or dam of Prassa is a dam made of soil, 60 meters high and 200 meters wide, and is a brand new project, launched in 2009, but the works have not yet been handed over due to some problems with the pipelines.

The lake of the river dam has capacity of about 22.5 million cubic meters and is expected to become an important wetland in the southeastern Mediterranean basin, since already, many species of birds and animals had made their appearance in the region.

The river dam became famous in July 2014, when two firefighters spotted a crocodile in the area 2 meters in length.

There are several traditional taverns with local cuisine along the river dam.
