Toumpotos prinos shelter-Nida plateau

The E4 route Toumpotos prinos shelter-Nida plateau is 14 km long and its estimated time is approximately 7 hours.

From the mountaineering shelter, the E4 route Toumpotos prinos shelter-Nida plateau follows the stream for a while and enters the Kako Plai region. Then, it bypasses the Mount Agathia (2424 m) and turns northeast reaching the highest peak of Timios Stavros (Holy Cross, 2454 m). At the foot of the mountain, it takes the eastern direction, bypasses from the southwest the peak of Kousakas, crosses the Kollita and heads for the Nida Plateau (1360 m). Throughout this route the landscape is bare and mainly rocky.

Characteristic plants that you will see while hiking the route Toumpotos prinos shelter-Nida plateau are aspalathos (Calicotome villosa), achinopodia (Genista acanthoclada), aromatic herbs, kistos (Сistus crericus), astoivida (Sarcopoterium spinosum), galastoivida (Euphorbia acanthothamnos), asfodelos (Asphodelus aestivus), cyclamens, Dragon plants, orchids and smaller, endemic to this region, plants, such as chionodoxa (Chionodoxa lochiae). The wild fauna is represented by raptors and undefined population of Cretan wildcat.

An ideal season to hike the route Toumpotos prinos shelter-Nida plateau is from April till October, but it is considered rather difficult.
