Historical and Folklore Museum of Thalames

The Historical Museum of Thalames was founded in 1980 by Dimangelos Nikonas and it is hosted in a tower house dating from the 19th century, at a village in west Mani.

The aim of the founder of the Historical and Folklore Museum of Thalames was to preserve and disseminate the history of Mani.

The Historical and Folklore Museum of Thalames hosts important documents and items of the social and rural life of the area, such as maps – the oldest one dates from 1580 – engravings, newspapers, cards, currencies, a loom, guns, knives, cameras , plates, etc.

At the Historical and Folklore Museum of Thalames, the visitor will also have the opportunity to see signs of the Friendly Society, portraits and documents of the Greek Revolution in 1821, historical caricatures, lithographs, tracts of resistant groups, personal belongings, agricultural and woodworking tools, textiles, glassware, sewing machine, typewriters, ceramics etc.
