Parnassus

At the border of the prefecture Boeotia, Phocis and Fthiotida, in central of Greece raises the mountain of Parnassus with the top Liakoura, which reaches 2,457 meters in altitude. The mountain covers an area of ​​108 square km.

It’s distinguished mainly in eastern and western Parnassus. The western side is called Gerolakos, from the homonymous top which dominates at 1,715 meters. The boundary between these two parts is the plateau at an altitude of 1,100 m. and which today crossing a road that connects Eptalophos with Arachova.

Parnassus with its rich relief is ideal for hiking, climbing and ski mountaineering. Since 1938, the central part is the core of the Parnassus National Park. Throughout history, Parnassus played an important role, as a natural bastion and defender of Athens. During the Greek Revolution of 1821, the Parnassus held numerous wars between the Greeks thieves’ guerillas and the Turkish army, with the greatest battles in Hani of Gravia and in Arachova.
