Ηania Sailing Club Lounge Cafe
The Hania Sailing Club (www.iox.gr) was founded in 1990. Its main purpose is to support and develop the art of sailing and to raise awareness about this activity. The Club is acknowledged by the General Secretariat of Sports and is part of the Greek Sailing Federation. It collaborates with Open Sea sailing schools, as well as Triangle sailing schools and it is involved in various cultural events. It also organizes various seminars on sailing.
The Hania Sailing Club was the one to establish the “South Aegean Sailing Rally”. Recently it obtained a J/24 sailing boat and started organizing races of such type. It also organized with great success the J/24 European Championship.
It is housed in the Dockyard Moro, an imposing building (about 60m long, 10m high and 9m wide) at the east part of the Old Venetian Port of Chania. It was build in 1607 during the Venetian Occupation (1204- 1669), by Benedetto Moro. Its reconstruction was financed by the Business Program PERIVALLON 2000- 2006, the 3rd Community Support Framework (CSF) and the municipality of Chania, in order to create a Sailing Center. I.O.X is a non- profit organization that hosts various activities, such as exhibitions, performances, lectures and seminars.
In its beautiful venue you can visit the Hania Sailing Club café, which is open from early in the morning till late at night. The café has played a significant part in all the Club’s initiatives.
