The Folklore Museum of Chania “Cretan House”

In the center of the old town of Chania on Halidon Street, as you follow the road to the port, visitors can find and visit the Folklore Museum of Chania, also known as “Cretan House”.

At the Museum, visitors can see and learn about the folklore tradition of Chania through a complete collection. The Folklore Museum of Chania, called “Cretan House”, represents agricultural and household activities, even using human models with authentic tools and products used in the farmhouses of the 18th and the 19th century.

There you will have the opportunity to see the basic spaces of a traditional Cretan house as it was formed during the first half of the 20th century. In the laboratory that operates under the auspices of the Folklore Museum of Chania, it is possible to make copies of old needlework. You can also find paintings with the form of embroidery, with scenes taken from local customs.

The Folklore Museum of Chania, the “Cretan House”, is located at the Covered Walk  of the Catholic Church at Halidon Street 46B. The ticket price costs 2 euros.
