Kountoura
The region of the village of Kountoura is also known as Agia Kyriaki. It is located southwest of Chania and is 24km from Kandanos and only seven of Paleochora.
In Kountoura the visitor will be impressed by the vast expanses with greenhouses, as the area is well known for its vegetable crops which there is intensive and supply throughout Crete and the rest of Greece. The agricultural cooperative of Kountoura indeed is one of the most active in Crete and its members grow mainly tomatoes, and cucumbers, peppers and eggplants, vegetables.
The name Kountoura is said that had took it by the “kountoures”, i.e. the fagots with cereals used to reap, mainly older, the residents of the village.
Near to Kountoura, you will find the beautiful beach of Krios with the blue waters and beautiful pebbles on the east side of CapeKrios. It has an area of one kilometer is suitable for camping, and is divided into three consecutive bays offer isolation seeking visitors.
