Temenia

The village Temenia is 62 km from the city of Chania and about 16 km from Paleochora. It is one of the most mountainous villages of the county, at an altitude of 700-1100 meters. Temenia consist of three neighborhoods: Central, called Tzanoudiana and has the most numerous inhabitants, Mesa Village, where there is a source and a guest house with tavern and Lazopouliana. The village has about 50 permanent residents.

Two miles outside Temenia, there are the ruins of the Minoan city Yrtakina, which was built at an altitude of 900 meters above the sea. In the village, there is the Byzantine church of Christ the Savior, since the 14th -century with great architecture and murals. In Temenia, there are also thermal springs and a recently renovated spa.

An important role in the history of the village has played the beverage industry with the name Temenia, operated there since 1954.

In Temenia, in August take place two festivals: 6th of August, the Savior and the 15th of August.
