Vafes is a small village, which is 37 km from. It is situated at an altitude of 210 meters and the few inhabitants are engaged in farming producing oil and wine.
Vafes of Apokoronos is the only village in the prefecture of Chania which has been declared since 1997 entirely by the Ministry of Culture as a historical monument because of its significant magnificent architecture and history.

In Vafes, there is the church of the Holy Apostles with the golden temple and arches, the very old stone vaulted storerooms. In two of these, the village’s priest has gathered a small collection of icons of the 18th century.
