Xirokampi

The village is located at Platanias, at an altitude of 150 meters and offers a unique view towards the valley with olive trees and vineyards. Xirokampi is built 18 km away from the center of Chania and only 3 kilometers away from the sea and the beach of Pirgos Psilonerou.

Xirokampi has no developed tourist infrastructure, as it is one of the villages of Platanias that fill with visitors only during the summer season.

The name of the village probably has to do with the desiccation of the sources that used to exist in the area. In fact, only one of the seven wells that existed in the village has not dried up and offers still water.

The central church of Xirokampi is dedicated to Saint Antonios. At a very close distance, there is the old church of St. Anthony that was built during the Venetian rule. The old church of St. Anthony is considered to be the twin church of Temple of Transfiguration, at Deres, another village in the area. It is possible that the two churches were built during the same period of time, perhaps by the same craftsmen.
