Ano Arfara

The settlement Ano Arfara is located at an altitude of 750 meters and is 3 km away from Poliani and 17km away from Arfara of Messinia. The “gem” of the village is the very old cathedral chruch of Agia Paraskevi of Byzantine style with a stone dome. It is located on the center of Ano Arfara next to a huge plane tree planted in 1908. In the same place there is an extremely elaborate traditional well.

The majority of residents in Ano Arfara are farmers and stockbreeders. They produce olive oil, figs, livestock food, mainly maize and cereals and many vegetables and fruits. There is strong activity in livestock farming especially in rearing sheep and goats while they are also occupied with beekeeping. This is due to the flora and fauna of the region of Ano Arfara, with the abundance of flowers, aromatic plants and the abundant water of Pidima and Agios Floros.

To the northeast of the village of Ano Arfara there are the ruins of the ancient city of Klogova near the foot of Mountain Ai-Lias of Arfara.
