Tsichli-Baba

In the south of Sfaktiria, opposite to Pylos, an islet named Tsichli Baba or Fanari is located, with the characteristic vertical hole in the middle. The boat ties up at the small pier and visitors have the opportunity to reach the top of the island after climbing 134 stairs. There is a marble column, the monument of the French Government (1890) which is dedicated to the French who lost their lives at the battle of Navarino. The view from the top of Tsichli-Baba is unique, as you can see Pilos, with Niokastro and the entire bay of Navarino as well.

The name has been attributed to Tsichli Baba thanks to the lighthouse that illuminates the night routes of the ships. Fanari in Greek means also lighthouse. You can find the lighthouse, which operated for the first time in 1873, down the edge of the island.

You should carefully walk between the stones and the thyme and find yourself on the other side of the island that faces towards the Ionian Sea. Admire the beautiful view!
