Karantaliotiko Gorge

Karantaliotiko gorge is located in the center of Rethymno prefecture and begins near the village of Agios Ioannis and ends up in Saitoures.

The Karantaliotiko gorge, with total length up to 3 km, owes its name to the abandoned settlement of Karantale, located at the entrance to the gorge. The vegetation in the gorge is impressive, while in some parts of the route you can come across beautiful cypress forests.

The hiking route that goes through the Karantaliotiko gorge is considered very easy, even for “beginners”, without much difficulty, apart from some places, where the cliffs are narrow and vertical. At some points, the trail goes through the bottom of the river, which has water until spring.
