Lake Orne

Lake Orne is located in Rethymno prefecture , only 500 meters northwest of Orne  village and 50 km far from the city of Rethymno .

Small in size, the lake Orne lies at an altitude of 300 m at the southeastern foot of the Mt Kedros .

The lake Orne is formed naturally, during winter period, by the waters of the springs flowing down from the snowy peaks of Mt Kedros and shaping a small recess in the ground, which covers an area of approximately 10 acres surrounded by green olive groves.

During your visit to lake Orne, you can also admire several waterfalls of Mt Kedros and its springs or, if you dare, you can climb the mountain’s cliffs. In close proximity to the lake there is the Kissano gorge .
