Mesa gorge of the Platis River

Mesa gorge of the Platis River in the prefecture of Rethymno is one of the two gorges formed by the narrowing of the Platis river , located between the villages of Agia Paraskevi, Vizari and Petrohori.

Mesa gorge of the Platis River, the crossing of which requires walking and swimming in the water that flows during all year round, is a miniature of the Kourtaliotis and creates small waterfalls and lakes.

At the beginning of the gorge, there is a fairly large waterfall falling into a huge lake, ideal for summer swim. The landscape in Mesa gorge of the Platis River is verdant with huge plane trees and other plants and full of animals, such as turtles and frogs that find refuge in its waters, while the steep cliffs are habitat for eagles and ravens.

Mesa gorge of the Platis River is not particularly large and it can be explored within less than an hour.
