Tessaron Martyron square

Tessaron Martyron Square in Rethymno is one of the most central points of this city of Rethymno prefecture, located shortly before the Megali Porta and the entrance to the Old Town.

It was named Tessaron Martyron Square (“of Four Martyrs”) after the homonymous church to the west of the square, between the Dimakopoulou-Gerakaris street and Kountourioti Avenue. The Girls’ Gymnasium once stood on this square.

There also is a statue of Kostis Giampoudakis, the one that set fire to the monastery of Arkadi, in Tessaron Martyron Square.
