Chania - Information

One of the four regional administrative units of Crete, Chania is the westernmost part of the island. To the north it borders with the Mediterranean sea, to the south with the Libyan sea and to the east with the regional unit of Rethymno. It consists of seven municipalities, based on the Kallikratis administrative division of Greece, and includes the island of Gavdos, the southernmost point of the continent.

The White Mountains, or Madares, as they are otherwise called, are the mountains that dominate the interior of Chania, while Samaria Gorge attracts visitors from all over the world and runs vertically through almost all the region and is one of the most important in Europe. In Chania, apart from the town that is a tourist attraction on its own, one finds some of the most beautiful beaches of Greece: Elafonisi, Balos, Falasarna are just some of them.
