Cedar forest

The Cedar Forest on Elafonissi is a coastal forest of rare beauty, consisting of centenarian, but small of height trees, since cedars grow only one centimeter per year.

The surrounding area of the Cedar Forest has been included in protected areas Natura and is also the habitat of the turtle Careta careta and not only. You must be aware that it is strictly forbidden to cut plants, break the branches of the cedars or to get from the coast even the sand!

The Cedar Forest is situated three kilometers from Elafonisi eastwards, following the rugged path. The area is very quiet and has a clean beach. In summer, there are several campers who choose this area to camp by the wave.

Elafonisi is located 76 km southwest of Chania and five kilometers south of Chrysoskalitissa, in the southwest part of Crete.

You can reach Elafonissi and the Cedar Forest by car from Chania and it takes about an hour and a half or by the interurban bus. The road to Elafonisi is narrow and full of bends, but the beauty of the landscape will reward you.
