Maralia

Maralia is a picturesque hilly village in the southern part of the prefecture of Chania in the foothills of the White Mountains. It is located 54 kilometers southwest of the city of Chania and is owned in the municipality of Kantanos – Selino, founded in 2010. The village Maralia, is located in the area of the provincial road connecting Chania to Paleochora, one of the most beautiful seaside towns of the entire island, with its beautiful beach. Very near to Maralia, is situated the village Kampanos, where you can find many cafes and restaurants.

In 2006, in Maralia, was filmed the documentary from director Anthi Daountaki. Then, there were in the village just five permanent inhabitants, elderly women, who had all lost their husbands. “Women in black”, as it is called the documentary tells the stories and daily lives of these women, who are all widows and live in company with each other.

In Maralia, is realized a festival on 12th of December, in honor of St. Spyridon.
