Sougia
Sougia is a small seaside village on the south coast of Chania, 70 km from the city. The route from Chania by car takes 1.5 to 2 hours, but one can reach Sougia by ferry boats from Paleochora, Agia Roumeli, Loutro, Sfakia and Gavdos. It is built in the gorge of Agia Irini and stands out for a large, beautiful beach with fine pebbles. Historically, Sougia was the ancient city Syia, port of Elyros.
In Sougia, you will find many small hotels with rooms, as well as taverns with good food, seafront cafés, convenience store and kiosk. There are also bars for nightlife. There is not in Sougia gas station, a pharmacy and a bank, but there is ATM.

• The museum with documents of the Second World War
• St. Panteleimon with its magnificent mosaics
• The Byzantine church of Aghia Irini (half an hour’s walk, unless you have 4×4)
• The gorge of Agia Irini
On 19th of July in Sougia is the festival of the Prophet Elias, who celebrates one day later. Pilgrims go by boat from the evening before the feast on the beach Tripiti, where is the church, 400 meters above the sea. Overnight there with food and traditional Cretan songs and returned the next day, after the Liturgy.
