Corfu - Access

In order to reach Corfu you have three choices: by airplane, by car and then take a ship from Igoumenitsa or by Intercity buses (KTEL) which carry out schedules from Athens and Thessaloniki. You can also approach the island with your own boat, as it has marinas, small and large in different places.

Obviously, the fastest way is by plane. Corfu International Airport «Ioannis Kapodistrias»  is situated 3 kilometers south of the center of the city  in the region of the lagoon of Chalikiopoulos  and its IATA code is CFU. There are many daily flights from and to Athens and the flight lasts approximately 50 minutes. During the summer there is an airport connection with many European cities, with charter flights, mainly from Germany and England but also flights from European companies at low cost. If you reach Corfu by plane, you can get to your destination by cab  which you will find just outside the airport.

If you decide to go with your own car you should know that the distance from Athens is approximately 500 kilometers and it will take you 6-7 hours till the port of Igoumenitsa and about 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach the port of Corfu. The schedules by boat from Igoumenitsa are carried out daily and during the whole day from 6am to 10pm. If your destination is the southern part of the island, it is better to take the ship which goes to the port  of Lefkimmi, with the voyage lasting less than an hour. If you are coming from northern Greece, the Egnatia motorway has significantly shortened the route and the trip Thessaloniki – Igoumenitsa lasts only 3 hours and the trip Ioannina – Igoumenitsa just 45 minutes.
