Germenata

Germenata is a village on the northern edge of Kefalonia. The whole area is called Erissos and by 2010 was one of the seven municipalities of the island. Germenata is very close to Fiskardo and 49 km away from Argostoli. The village has 36 residents and is situated 114 meters above sea level.

The houses are built in traditional way and Germenata is characterized as a traditional settlement. It is one of the few villages of Kefalonia that had not been damaged by the devastating earthquake, in August 1953. Erissos is one of the few areas of Kefalonia, Ithaca and Zakynthos not flattened by the consecutive earthquakes, measuring more than seven on the Richter scale.

The view from Germenata will impress you: it is not built at high altitude, but nothing stops the human eye to reach the coasts of northern Ithaca and southern Lefkada.

In Germenata, you will arrive following the provincial road from Argostoli – Fiskardo, while another short road also starts from Antipata, from the Russian style, impressive village’schurch
