Galliano Gorge
The Galliano gorge of the prefecture of Rethymno begins southeast of the Gallou settlement, 5 km far from the city of Rethymno and ends up inside the city borders.
The length of the bottom of the Galliano gorge, from the beginning to the end, is about 5.700 meters and it passes through a verdant ravine. The southern area is characterized by different kinds of vegetation including crops, grasslands and woodlands.
Along the gorge, the visitor can see traces of an old church and the mill of Saounatsides that was in use up to the 20th century.
There is also a church of Agios Antonios in Galliano gorge, while it is full of private properties, the fact that makes it difficult to hike.
