Beach of Sougia

The beach of Sougia is located at the small fishing village with the same name, 75 kilometers southwest of Chania, at the exit of the imposing gorge of Agia Irini.

The wonderful and large beach of Sougia with thick sand and clear deep waters starts from the small port and extends for about a kilometer.

The coast was a favorite destination for hippies in the 1970s. Today, it is ideal for a relaxing holiday. In this beautiful landscape there are all the standard amenities for the visitors of the region.

In Sougia you will find restaurants, rooms, cafes, bars, mini market, kiosk and ATM.

The beach of Sougia ends at a small bay, hidden by rocks, which is well protected from prying eyes. The eastern part of the long beach is not organized and preferred almost exclusively by nudists.

In contrast, in the part in front of the village there are umbrellas, showers and a lifeguard. Along the beach there are many trees absolutely necessary for campers and swimmers.

During summer, boats have daily itineraries from the beach of Sougia to Chora of Sfakia, Paleochora, Agia Roumeli and Loutro. There are also itineraries for Gavdos.

The beach of Sougia is located in the gorge of Agia Irini and there you will see the perennial oak trees that dominate the landscape. These oaks favored in antiquity pig breeding. After all, the name “Sougia ” means exactly that, a place with pigs.
