Douliana

Douliana is a small picturesque village of Chania, built at an altitude of 119 meters in the center of the peninsula of Apokorona. The village is about 25 km southeast of Chania and 35 km northwest of Rethymno, staying at this about 70 residents.

In Douliana, you will find many buildings, public and private, which have been characterized as scheduled monuments because of their traditional architecture.

Among the old and the fully renovated buildings, the old helical alleys of old Douliana are an attraction by themselves. Around the village, there are the remains of the old stone road, which was built during the Byzantine era and for centuries was the region’s road network.

Three kilometers from the village are the beaches of Kalives and Almyrida. A very nice trail joins Douliana with Gavaloxori, as it passes through a beautiful small canyon, a forest and the cave church of St. John. The path to the beach Keras is excellent for walking or cycling.
