Chalikounas

Chalikounas is a seaside settlement, with a small number of houses, just at the northern end of Lake Korission, in the southern part of the island. The entire region is under the protection of the treaty of Natura 2000, because it is one of the most significant wetlands of the island. Chalikounas is mostly known for its vast, sandy beach, a narrow strip of land, which separates the Lake from the Sea, thus creating a unique, natural environment in all the Mediterranean. In Chalikounas there are quite a few rentable summer houses for those who prefer quiet holidays. The village has no other shops, except one tavern on the top of high ground, above the sea. Whatever you may need, you will find in Agios Matheos  which is about 4 kilometers away from Chalikounas.
