Kontogialos was the center of attention 30 year ago, as it was the favorite destination of hippies. Today, it offers tranquil holidays, ideal for relaxation. The beach is famous for its smooth, golden sandy shore which is an attraction not only for tourists but also for many Corfiots because it is only about a 15 minute drive from the city.

The rock, which is situated in the sea between Kontogialos and the adjacent beach towards the south, Gialiskari, is interwoven with the legend of the petrified bride. According to it, pirates raided the area during a wedding ceremony and snatched the bride. As her mother gazed at the pirate ship vanishing with her daughter, she cursed it and according to tradition, this is how the rock was formed.
