Makrades

Built at the top of a verdant hill with perennial olive trees, Makrades is a very old village with history which goes back to the 13th century. It is possible that its first residents who were craftsmen built the famous Aggelokastro  which is only one kilometer away from Makrades. The distinctive characteristic in Makrades is its architecture which is still maintained even though 8 centuries have passed since the establishment of the village. The old church, the main road and its picturesque alleys, synthesize the enchanting scenery of the authentic, Corfiot countryside.

A sight of the village is Agia Paraskevi of Makrades, a monastery which dates back to the 17th century. In Makrades you will find two taverns that serve traditional Corfiot meals, a mini market and some souvenir shops. Makrades is about 15 minutes by car from the beautiful and large beach of Agios Georgios in Pagoi. Do not forget to visit Aggelokastro and the beautiful, picturesque village of Krini  which is situated at the entrance of this Byzantine castle.
