Vatonies

Vatonies is a lowland village in north-western Corfu, built at an altitude of 140 meters, near Aleimmatades. In Vatonies is preserved the church of Agioi Apostoloi, an edifice from the 17^th century.

The main surname in Vatonies is Leftheriotis or Lefteriotis, which refers to the Eleftheriotes of the Byzantine era, families with an exemption of taxes because of their good deeds, offered as a golden bull by Manuel I Komnenos from the 12^th century.
