Elaia

The village of Elaia (or Elia) is located on the north bank of the Ardas River, right in the middle of the riverside route on Greek soil between Milia and Kastanies. In 1996, a bridge was built in Elaia leading to the opposite shore and the village of Fylakio. The bridge is 500 meters long and 7 meters wide.

In the area of Elaia in northeast outside the village, has been found a burial mound. Excavations have not started yet, but according to the legend a gold loom or a gold wagon is buried in this tomb. Next to the “mound” is located a cesme, a tap to quench the thirst of animals of the neighboring villages. Exactly opposite stands the beautiful church of Saint Panteleimon the Healer.
