Lefkimmi

Lefkimmi, a picturesque village, surrounded by the beauties of nature, is located on the outskirts of the protected Dadia forest in the center of the prefecture of Evros and has a trademark one of the most beautiful churches of the prefecture, the church of the Nativity of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary). It is 47 kilometers from Alexandroupolis.

The village took its name from the many poplars (lefkes) that existed in the area. Its privileged position next to the forest and near the Evros River turned Lefkimmi into one of the larger head villages and commercial center of the region until 1927. At the village square dominates half-ruined the Kirmizi mansion, sample of the architecture but also the robustness of that period.

Due to its privileged location, Lefkimmi is a center to escape the urban tissue and to explore both the exceptional ecosystems of the Evros Delta and the Dadia Forest. The dam near the village and cycling in special forested trails are elements that make it even more alluring.
