Keramies

Keramies is the main village of the southern Kefalonia and it is only 10 km from Argostoli. By 2010, was the capital of the Municipality of Leivatho, one of the 8 Kapodistrian municipalities of the island. Until then, in Keramies, there were all public services, while so far operate the schools of the former municipality, elementary, middle school and high school. Keramies has 334 permanent inhabitants, according to the 2011 census.

However, close to Keramies is the port Pessada connecting Kefalonia with Zakynthos, the northern part of the daily summer.

Keramies is the birthplace of Vallianos family, whose son; Panayis Vallianos is one of the greatest national benefactors. Though illiterate himself, he financed the building of the National Library and numerous projects in his native, Kefalonia. The central square of Argostoli bears his name and adorned by his statue. The house Panayis Vallianos is still in Keramies.
