Fotakado

Fotakado is a hilly village of Chania with approximately 60 residents. It is located at an altitude of 300 meters, 35 kilometers from the city of Chania.

It is a rural area with significant oil, citrus and chestnut production. The residents of Fotakado are also occupied in viticulture, animal husbandry and apiaries.

The village is relatively rough and steep at those points where it is crossed by the river Tavronitis. Fotakado has an amphitheatric position above the valley of Tavronitis. The route between Voukolies and Old Roumata via the river that goes through the village is stunning you should definitely do it.

One of the five churches of Fotakado is dedicated to the Prophet Elissaios. The chapel was built with stones that were taken from the Turkish fortress that had been demolished by the locals during the Cretan Revolution and after their victory in the famous Battle of Dromonero.
